How to Get More Out of Singing Practice: Meet The Vocal Gym

Have you ever finished a voice lesson feeling motivated and excited to practice, only to find yourself wondering what to work on when you get home?

As a vocal coach with more than 20 years of teaching experience, I've seen how important practice is to a singer's development. But I've also seen how challenging it can be to know whether you're practicing effectively, what to focus on next, and how to keep making progress between lessons.

That's one of the reasons I created The Vocal Gym, an AI-powered vocal coaching app designed to help singers get more out of their practice.

I wanted to give singers access to more of the resources I use in my teaching, along with something especially important: a way to receive feedback between lessons.

Here's why that matters and how The Vocal Gym can help you approach your singing practice differently.

Why Is Practicing Singing Between Lessons Important?

Your voice develops through learning, repetition, experimentation, and feedback. A private voice lesson gives you dedicated time to work with a vocal coach who can help you understand what's happening in your voice and guide you toward more effective coordination.

But what happens when you leave that lesson?

You might practice several times during the week. You might revisit an exercise that felt particularly helpful or work on a challenging passage in a song. You may even discover a new question about your technique.

Without feedback, it can be difficult to know whether you're moving in the right direction.

That's why I believe effective singing practice needs more than repetition. It needs a feedback loop.

What Is a Feedback Loop in Singing Practice?

A feedback loop is the process of trying something, receiving information about the result, and using that information to guide your next attempt.

In singing, this might mean working on an exercise, listening carefully to your sound, receiving guidance, and then trying again with a clearer understanding of what to focus on.

During a private voice lesson, your instructor can provide this kind of guidance in real time. But singers don't only work on their voices during lessons. The work continues throughout the week.

I wanted to create a way for singers to access additional feedback during that time, helping them approach their practice with greater awareness and direction.

That idea became The Vocal Gym.

Introducing The Vocal Gym: AI-Powered Vocal Coaching

The Vocal Gym brings together several resources to support your singing practice in one place.

1. Upload Your Audio and Receive AI Feedback

One of the central features of The Vocal Gym is the ability to upload your audio and receive immediate AI-generated feedback.

I designed how the AI responds so that its feedback follows the approach I've programmed into the app. The goal is to give singers another opportunity to reflect on their singing and receive guidance as they work between lessons.

Instead of waiting until your next private lesson to revisit every question, you can use this resource during the week as part of your practice routine.

2. Access a Library of Vocal Coaching Videos

Sometimes you need to see a concept demonstrated rather than simply read about it.

The Vocal Gym gives you access to my video library, which I developed to help singers work through important aspects of vocal technique and practice. More over, The Ai coach will make recommendations on what to work on based on your input!

Having these resources available means you can return to them when you need a reminder or want to revisit an idea from your lessons.

3. Use Audio Resources to Support Your Practice

The app also includes audio resources to help support your work as a singer.

Having video and audio materials available alongside your feedback gives you additional resources to draw on as you build your practice routine.

4. Learn Through My Vocal Coaching Blog

Singing involves more than producing notes. Understanding vocal technique, developing useful practice habits, and learning how to approach challenges are all important parts of the process.

I've created educational blog content to give singers a visual reference and additional information about concepts that matter to their development.

The Vocal Gym brings these resources together so you can return to them when you need them.

How to Get More Out of Your Singing Practice

Whether you're working with a private vocal coach, preparing for an audition, developing your musical theater repertoire, or simply looking to become a more confident singer, the way you approach practice matters.

Here are a few principles I encourage singers to keep in mind.

Set a clear goal. Instead of trying to improve everything in one session, identify one area you want to focus on.

Work with intention. Pay attention to what you're doing rather than repeating an exercise automatically.

Use the resources available to you. Return to helpful videos, audio exercises, and educational materials when you need additional guidance.

Look for feedback. Give yourself opportunities to understand what's happening in your voice and what you might try differently.

Be consistent and patient. Vocal development takes time. Progress isn't always immediate, and every practice session doesn't need to be perfect to be useful.

The goal is to build a relationship with your voice that allows you to learn, experiment, and grow.

Why I Created The Vocal Gym

After more than 20 years of teaching voice, one of the questions I've continually asked myself is: How can I help my students get more out of their practice?

I started by building a video library. I created a blog to provide singers with visual references and educational information. Each resource was another way to help singers continue learning outside of their lessons.

But I kept coming back to the importance of feedback.

When you're in a one-on-one lesson, you can receive direct feedback from me. I wanted to give singers another way to receive feedback throughout the week, rather than having to wait until their next appointment.

That's why I built The Vocal Gym.

My bigger goal has always been to help singers experience greater vocal freedom and learn to love and enjoy the process of singing. I want you to feel equipped to work toward your goals with curiosity, confidence, and a better understanding of your voice.

The app is another way for me to share the resources I've developed through years of teaching and to help singers make their practice time more productive.
